Thanksgiving Safari! =]
Yes. That is correct. While you were all eating turkey and ham and all that good stuff. I was checking out monkeys, warthogs, and all kinds of beautiful birds! But, let me back up and tell ya the whole story. =]
We left Thursday morning around 8 and picked Alossis and then we were on our way! And let me tell you, we drove on the worst road I have EVER been on. I mean. The WORST. It was a dirt road of course because Mole was out in the bush. It was an interesting drive going through the villages that have no electricity except for solar lights in the middle of the village. Crazy. We also drove by the grave of a "Great Gonja Warrior" that apparently conquered many lands. So, that was interesting and on our way to Moley just before we got there we went through the fairly big village of Larabanga. In this village is the oldest mosque in West Africa. You could definitely feel an demonic spirit in that village. We didn't stop, we just drove by the mosque cause there was no way we were getting out there. But, then we made it to Mole!!!
And we got settled in our rooms and then it was about time for lunch. We went to a little picnic area on the park to eat. So we had our Thanksgiving lunch of ham salad sandwiches, Pringles (yes, we found the name brand! Thanksgiving miracle!), and Coke! So it was quite a festive occasion. Then we went back to motel and Amy and I went to the pool for a little bit. Then it was time for the Safari!!!
Our guide was something else... He was an interesting man. We got to see lots of animals! Particularly, warthogs, different monkeys, deer, and birds. We got to get out and walk a little but we mostly stayed in the truck cause there were all kinds of flies following the truck! It was crazy! And when we went to the watering hole and I'm convinced that I saw a crocodile's eye... Seriously, it was just hanging out above the water. So cool!!! And we just drove around looking at the beautiful scenery. Very cool.
Once we got back to the hotel again I spent some time out on the observation deck when all of a sudden I heard a ruckus behind me! A monkey had ran into the kitchen grabbed some salad dressing and ran out! So there were 3 of em hanging out and one was really close for people to start taking pictures and I guess he didn't like that so he ran up to a guy and grabbed his leg! And it was crazy! So that guy ran away and then the monkey came over to the observation deck and I took a picture of him and the flash freaked him so he started coming for me!!! So I started freaking out and laughing, well apparently he didn't like my laugh either cause that scared him away! hahaha! How funny is that? Anyway, then it was time for dinner and my Thanksgiving dinner was spaghetti =] Delicious! haha! We played a couple games of Euchre then we all hit the hay! Cause the next morning we had to get up super early for our morning safari! We had an awesome guide for that... But, we still didn't get to see any elephants. =[ I was sad! But, again it was still awesome! After the safari was the long drive back to Buipe! And the road is always longer home. Especially when its terrible dirt road!
Then Friday I had my club and then this morning I had my club. Which was awesome. I love my kids. Hard to believe I only have 3 more clubs left with them. But, I don't want to think about that yet. But, keep praying for them. We are now talkin about Jesus and I'm just hoping and praying that they will see and know that Jesus died for them! So keep praying with me!

Thankful =]
Well, its about that time. It's November so that means everyone is writing thankful blogs... Right? Haha. So, why not jump on the bandwagon. Man, there are so many hundreds of things to be thankful for in my life. Let's make a list.
My parents - Ok, let's be honest. They're a little nuts. But, I love em so much. Who else can call their mom the "Happy Bus Driver" and call their dad idiot and stupid and get away with it? haha! My dad always has a new joke for me and my mom has some insane story about the dog or about her "friends" (soap opera characters) every time I call home. And they are my number one fans. I am so thankful for them because they raised me up in the church and (tried) to make me behave. But, more importantly they trust in the Lord and know that He is taking care of me. And I am SO incredibly blessed to have that kind of influence in my life. They have traveled countless miles to support me in my various adventures. Spent probably an INSANE amount of money on those adventures as well. But, they still let me go and do whatever the Lord has called. They are amazing and wonderful and so stinking crazy. But, I wouldn't have them any other way.
My siblings - Again, let's be honest. They're a little nuts. haha. I know that I did NOT get a long with my siblings very much growing up. But, now that we are grown up I can appreciate them for who they are, even if it seems like we are all the same person some times. Maybe that's why its easy for me to appreciate them? haha! They put up with me and have given me so much grace for me being an idiot in the past. And I know that whenever we get together there are guaranteed to be lots and lots of laughs and movie quotes and sarcastic comments. But, I have 2 amazing sisters and 2 wonderful brothers that I look up to so much. Their ministries are flourishing and the Lord is blessing them. They are crazy and out of control sometimes, and their sarcasm is a bit outrageous, but man I love them to death. I am so thankful to have siblings in the ministry to look up to and learn from. They're a blessing.
My boo - Sorry that you're 3rd on the list love, but I mean my family would kill me if I put you first. =] haha. But, seriously, wow. God has blessed me with an incredible man who not only loves me for me, but humors me and my crazy ideas. He prays for me, lets me quote movies all the time, even if he doesn't know what movie its from, AND he's reading Harry Potter for me. He loves me enough to let me leave the country for 3 months while he lives under my parents roof without me. If that's not love then I don't know what is =] But, he has been an amazing support and encouragement while I have been over here. I truly don't know what I would do without him. He's my other half and best friend. I am just so thankful for God giving me what I want in a man, but more importantly what I need. Because I needed a shy homeschooler in my life that is logical and thinks before he acts, unlike me. =]
Julie and Steve - My 2nd set of parents. They trusted the Lord when he called me to serve at BOC and opened their home to me. And Steve opened his office to me for the summer. His Harley office, that's no small thing =] And ever since I spent the summer of 2011 in Acworth they have encouraged me to go wherever God leads even if its away from home or my 2nd home. I know they pray for me daily and I am SO stinking thankful for them.
My friends - WOW. I have some pretty awesome guys and gals in my life. One of my friends has been sending me Facebook messages on a regular basis to let me know what new songs have come out in the States while I'm gone. Another friend will send me messages just quoting movies because she knows that will make me smile and there are countless others who are praying for me on a regular basis and I cherish them so much.
My supporters - You guys. My goodness, some of you have been supporting me in prayers and finances since God called me to Haiti in 2010 and I don't know if I will ever be able to truly thank you for what you've done in my life. Just know that I thank and praise God for you all. I am so glad that you have answered His call to support me in prayer and in giving. So if I haven't really said it to, I thank you and I thank God for you!
Terry and Amy - My word. They are amazing. We had only talked via e-mail and Skype yet they knew that God was calling me to Ghana and they opened their home to me and their ministry to me! Most days I wake up and think, I'm living in Ghana... What in the world??? But, this is their everyday life. And I can't believe I get to share in it. So amazing.
Ghana - I am just thankful for this amazing opportunity to live overseas and work with people that have NEVER heard the name of Jesus. I mean. Really, they have never heard. It blows my mind thinking about it. Thinking that God chose me to come and live here and minister to these children. WOW. I'm just so thankful.
Jesus - I mean, do I really have to explain this one... He died and gave me life. He's my Savior and that's about the best thing ever and what I am mos thankful for in my life.
I know there are so many other things to be thankful for and so much that God has blessed me with. But, I don't know if I enough time or space to write about everything. I am thankful for those of you who read this blog, even if its long and drawn out. Thanks for sticking with me =] I am just going to ask that you all continue to pray for me while I am over here. Thursday is going to be hard not being with my family and not being with Ryan on our 1st Thanksgiving "together" Also, pray for my kids, I begin talking about Jesus this week and I pray that they will hear and know that He is the Way, Truth, and Life. Ask the Holy Spirit to be preparing their hearts now and get all of the children to come out to my clubs. Thanks again for all that you have done for me! =]

Little update on my villages!
That's right! I've made it into the villages 4 times! And every visit has gotten more and more productive! Let me give you just a short update on what's going on in each village!
Kurawura kuraa - This past week I had 100 children! Yes. 100 children! How amazing is that? 20 of those children being Fulani! Even more amazing. There have been some women coming that are listening very intently. This past week one of the women was late and another continued to explain the story to her. It was super cool to watch her explain the story to her friend! So awesome!
Alhassan kuraa - In this village I don't even have to walk through to get the children to come! We meet on the main road in town so they see me pull up and they come running! I love it! I also have to keep meeting the chief in this village. This week I asked him how he was doing. He said he was very strong. Haha. Oh Ghanaians! =] And then this week I had about 6 Fulani guys hanging out in the background. Not sure if they were listening. But, they were there and were super curious about this white girl was up to! haha! Hoping they come back!
Kadelso - This village. I just don't know if I get this village yet. There is a different spirit here. There seems to be a mentality of "Give Me" here more than any of the other ones. Its like I can just feel Satan holding onto that village. This week I had several children there... Which was amazing and several adults as well. I got hit on by 3 guys, luckily the FAKE engagement ring kept them away. Also, there was a drunk gentlemen there... It was an interesting visit! haha! But, I still had little Wahab there who is a great listener! I was missing about 5 girls that are usually good listeners as well. I"m assuming the Salah kept them away.
Every village is a little different. But I love each and every one of them and I love all the children in them! Its such a cool feeling to know that I am making a difference in their life and that they love me. For example, today I was in the truck with Amy and we were going over the Black Volta bridge and over this bridge we have to go very slow. And I waved at a couple girls thinking they looked very familiar. Next thing I know they're chasing the car hollering Madame Terah, Madame Terah! Haha! It was so cute. They were so excited to see me. They were from the village of Kurawura kuraa. I saw them again while we were running errands and they give me big smiles and waves. I love it. I love these children so much. I look forward to my weekends and getting to spend more time with them and watch them experience the Lord! Its amazing...
This past week I was just overcome with the feeling of, "I can't believe God chose me." I am a girl from Kinmundy, IL. A town where no one really leaves the country. A little blip on the map. And he CHOSE me to come here and tell these people; most of them for the first time, about the loving Creator we have! And I just don't know how to put this into words... But, I really don't understand Him choosing me. But, I am so thankful He did. I don't know. I hope I am making sense to you all! Haha!
I just want to ask you all to continue praying for me to have energy and and excitement for the children! Pray that I continue to represent Christ! And pray for their hearts to be receiving of Him. And one last thing. Pray for Kadelso. They especially need it.

Almost 100, I Met the Chief, Absolute Candy Chaos
Oh. My. Goodness. The past 24 hours of my life have been one insane roller coaster! I woke up yesterday morning and I could literally feel the attacks from Satan. I can't fully explain it except that I felt it. I could tell he was attacking my mind and it was the craziest thing I have ever felt. But, I knew why he was attacking. It was Friday so that means visiting Kurawura kuraa (I LOVE THIS VILLAGE) and he knows its going to be won for Christ. So he was very intensely attacking me. So I was just praying the whole way to the village for God to keep me strong and to keep Satan away while I tell my story. And of course God answers prayers! The children listened so intently and remembered things from last weeks story! It was phenomenal! And by the time I was done telling the story, there were 65 children, a dozen or so teenagers and a dozen or so adults... Do the math people! That's almost 100 people hearing Bible stories! Hallelujah and Praise the Lord! It was crazy! And so amazing! Once the story was done I had enough time to play a game, so I taught them how to play Duck, Duck, Goose and let me tell you. It was the most insane game of Duck, Duck, Goose I have ever played. There were 65 children in the circle! I mean! So crazy to have to run around that! hahahaha! But, so much fun! The children just laughed and laughed! And when they came close to me I of course always got picked! haha! So much fun! They are just a blast!
After this village I went home and got to talk to one of my best friends. Courtney List. And in case some of you don't know this girl has played a huge role in my life. She convinced me to go to Haiti, told me about South Africa, and even made me realize that I was supposed to spend last summer in Atlanta. Oh, and btw, she introduced me to Ryan... NBD. (That's obviously a lie, its a big deal) So anyway, I got to share with her about my ministry here and just shared with her some ways that Satan had been attacking. At the end of our conversation she told me that she was glad to hear that I was being attacked because it meant I was doing something right. And that reminded me of one of my favorite Scriptures. Acts 5:41-The Apostles left the Sanhedrin rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Now, I understand that Satan attacking and the persecution the Apostles were facing are different. But, its the same principal, when Satan's working hard. That means God is working as well. And as my friend Courtney said. God always wins. I say, dang right he does! hahaha!
So then, this morning I wake up and I get ready to go to Alhassan kuraa and Kadelso. First up was Alhassan kuraa and the children came running up when they saw Amy, Joseph, and I pull up! There were even some Fulani women in the back standing and listening. I almost cried tears of joy. I was so happy and the telling of the story went great! We were passing out candy and singing songs and a man came up to me and asked why a little girl didn't receive candy and I told him that the candy was finished and I would bring some next time I came... Well, silly me I didn't know he was the chief. I mean, he looked like any other man in the village how was I suppose to know he was the chief. So, anyway, he grabbed Joseph and asked Joseph if he could have a word with me. He did not look very happy at all. So Joseph and I went to the chief's house and we sat down and he said he was going to fight me and I was what? and he again said I'm going to fight you and I said I am very sorry if I have offended you. I did not know what I did. Well, come to find out this man's ego is HUGE. He was mad that I had been to the village twice and did not see him. Well, Joseph and I said that we had tried and that he was not around and he understood that. He also said that he is not an ordinary man, he is a man of dignity, if I saw his cattle I would marvel at it. He has a home in Kintampo and a home here in Alhassan kuraa. He just came to his home here to relax and then he finds out that I was here and he didn't know. He also told me that in the States it is the same thing, that there are men in charge of villages that need to know what is going on. (I should have told him that father is the chief of my village) hahaha! I will get my chance to tell him I am sure. haha! But, he also said that it is ok that I come and keep coming. I just need to stop by his house and tell him when I am there. This just proves that when someone gets a little bit of power it goes to their head. I mean. Ridiculous. haha. But, its ok cause I got all the permission I needed and there shouldn't be anymore obstacles.
At my last village, Kadelso, there was an insane mob of people! haha! There was a luncheon in the village for an organization of some sort and because they had already had tons of children gathered they saw me coming and that was enough ALL of the children came to storytelling. There were so many I couldn't even do a head count. It was crazy! haha! And so, there were also many adults there as well. Which was very cool for them to hear the story. Some are there because they want something from me, actually most are probably there because they want something from me. But, they are there nonetheless and they are hearing God's Word. So again, no complaints! Except that it is impossible to pass candy out to that village. It gets so insane, Joseph just throws the two boxes of candy in different directions and lets them go get it. hahaha! Its crazy, but its all you can do sometimes! haha!
But, all in all, I am loving these villages. Its so amazing to see people soak in the Word and see their hunger for more! Its a blessing. God continues to bless me here and bless the people I work with! So awesome! Thanks for all your support and prayers! They are appreciated and needed! Much love! Eborye naffa benye! (I should have told him that father is the chief of my village) hahaha! I will get my chance to tell him I am sure. haha! But, he also said that it is ok that I come and keep coming. I just need to stop by his house and tell him when I am there. This just proves that when someone gets a little bit of power it goes to their head. I mean. Ridiculous. haha. But, its ok cause I got all the permission I needed and there shouldn't be anymore obstacles.
At my last village, Kadelso, there was an insane mob of people! haha! There was a luncheon in the village for an organization of some sort and because they had already had tons of children gathered they saw me coming and that was enough ALL of the children came to storytelling. There were so many I couldn't even do a head count. It was crazy! haha! And so, there were also many adults there as well. Which was very cool for them to hear the story. Some are there because they want something from me, actually most are probably there because they want something from me. But, they are there nonetheless and they are hearing God's Word. So again, no complaints! Except that it is impossible to pass candy out to that village. It gets so insane, Joseph just throws the two boxes of candy in different directions and lets them go get it. hahaha! Its crazy, but its all you can do sometimes! haha!
But, all in all, I am loving these villages. Its so amazing to see people soak in the Word and see their hunger for more! Its a blessing. God continues to bless me here and bless the people I work with! So awesome! Thanks for all your support and prayers! They are appreciated and needed! Much love! Eborye naffa benye! 1 Month... What!
So, since I have almost been here a month I felt it was time for me to share with you all a little bit of what I have learned in my time here. He has been showing me all kinds of things! And I think you will enjoy them =]
1. Our Maker is wonderful and He always knows what He is doing. Even when we question. i.e. I was not excited to teach at Seed Ministry because I had never taught before and it was super last minute and I had no idea what I was going to teach children that don't speak my language! But, it turned out to be one of my most favorite weeks here (thus far)
2. Mission trips and being a missionary are two totally different things. When you're on a mission trip you get to go with your friends and hang out with children and everyone praises your for taking time our of your busy life in America to come over here. When you're living as a missionary (depending on where you are) you are hauling water, taking out sawdust toilets and getting new ones, washing dishes, oh and making the lesson plans because when you're on a mission trip you are told what you are teaching. When you're a missionary you make the lesson plans and come up with the games and hope the children understand your American game.
3. Ghanaians LOVE Celine Dion. This is so true. I have heard the Canadian songstress numerous times here! She was playing in a restaurant on our way from Accra, I heard it blaring in Tamale, and here is the best one. We have masons at the house finishing work on the Training Center and I heard one of them listening to her on his phone. HE WAS SINGING ALONG. "Cause I'm your lllaaadddddyyyyy and you are mmmyyyy maaaan." Not kidding. You can't make up this kind of stuff.
4. Don't ever question your gifts and talents. Romans 9:20, 21
But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, "Why did you make me like this?" Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?
This Scripture really hit me about 2 weeks after I got here. My mother is a blessing. I love her. Dearly. But, there is no way in the world I could (or would ever) be a bus driver. Many of you know that I am a *terrible* driver. (Terrible is an understatement) And I would be more concerned with if the children were having fun on my bus rather than sitting and me paying attention to the road. Jan Jan on the other hand is a fantastic bus driver, she has the focus and discipline it takes for that. I am still not quite sure what God is going to do with my talents just yet... But, I'm enjoying where He has me using them right now.
5. America is too convient and ungrateful. Microwaves, fast food, indoor plumbing, nice roads, good internet, dishwashers, marshmallows, electricity, Peanut Butter M&Ms, cell phone plans that you don't have to pay as you go... These are all things that I have at one time missed from back home. But, as I think about it now, I am grateful for these things and it would be nice to have a lot of them. Yet, if we had fast food I would miss out on meals and fellowship time with Terry and Amy and the visitors we have had. And even though the nice roads need to happen here I have been blessed to ride with Amy to Tamale numerous times and we have gotten to laugh about the terrible roads and had fun (maybe?) trying to dodge the hundreds of potholes, or choose which pothole is smaller cause there's no way around hitting at least one and we have gotten to know each other pretty well on our drives. I did dishes last week with Mandy a lot (one of the visitors) and we just had a ball doing them together. Just so you all understand, I am not coming down on you because I know that I take all of the above for granted. And I'm not gonna lie when I get back to the States I'm probably gonna have Peanut Butter M&Ms everyday. But, I think I have been so blessed (and forced to) stop and smell the roses in life. Its like on Pollyanna. I think everyday as a missionary you play "The Glad Game" and it really is kinda fun =]
6. Being a people person has its flaws. Bear with me here. I am definitely a people person. I love everyone, children are beautiful, teenagers are hilarious, college age is wonderful, adults need some TLC, and old people are just freaking adorable. I. Love. People. BUT, that should not be my main reason for wanting to tell them the Gospel. I have spoken with Terry about this a few times. The reason I have been so focused on sharing the Gospel with these children is because they need to hear about God, but I also love them and I want them in Heaven. But, Terry has a slightly different reason, of course he agrees with me and many other Christians. But, think about this. Every time someone denies God they are robbing Him of the glory He deserves. God is our Master and Creator and He deserves to be worshipped by everyone in the world. ALL NATIONS. When someone dies they either go to Heaven or Hell. If they are in Heaven they're praising God, if they are in Hell, well, they're not praising God. And He just plain deserves our worship. This thought has given me a new perspective on why I share the Gospel and why people need to know about Him.
7. God's heart for the nations. He loves every tribe, tongue, and nation. The whole concept of tribes has been made real to me in my time here because people are classified by their tribe here. Which, this is a total revelation to me. Cause, tribes aren't really a thing in the US. Anyway, God loves every single tribe and He desires a relationship with them. Just a few Scriptures I think you all should look up.

Exodus 12:37, 38
Deuteronomy 4:6

Just look at all those and the Word's emphasis on all nations.
8. My testimony is more powerful than I realize. I have always kind of thought that my testimony is a typical one. Grew up in the church, survived high school, and when to Bible college. Pretty boring right? So when people asked for my testimony I would only tell about when I was at SLCC and God grabbed a hold of my heart and led me overseas. I realized the other night that my testimony is actually a pretty big deal. Most of the amazing testimonies you hear that tug on your heartstrings are about people being delivered from something. And I was thinking about mine. And I was like, "what did God deliver me from?" And it hit me. MYSELF. I have been so freaking selfish. My dreams in life were to be famous and if I wasn't famous then to have a super cushy job at a big church being the "Director of Creative Arts" Talk about just smacking the Creator in the face and not asking what He wanted for my life. I feel like I was delivered about a year ago but I didn't realize it until now. (Go back and read my blogs from last year to understand more of what I mean) And, I don't know if I started really living it out a year a go though, that may still be in the process. But, I want to encourage you to think more about your testimony and how have you been delivered. Because, its a freeing feeling. I mean it.
I think that's about the main things. I have learned some Gonja and that is exciting. I learned how to make homemade marshmallows, that is equally as exciting. But, I just think that if those things are all God teaches me on this trip then it was totally worth it. But let's be honest, God never stops teaching us things and He has still has a lot to do with me! So stay posted for each months update and of course the little random updates I give you! Much love! The Scariest Thing I've Ever Done... and then some
So let me tell you all about the scariest thing I have *ever* done.
It was last Friday, over a week ago, and I'm cruising with Amy, Joseph (my translator), Fulera (I think that's how you spell it), and Isaac's children. We pull up to the sign that says Kurawura kuraa and she drops Joseph and I off... In the middle of the road! Hahaha! And then it was go time. I wasn't sure what to do, so Joseph said that for our ministry to be successful we needed to go and tell one of the elders of the village that we were here. So, I'm like "uh, ok, whatever you think is best." So here I am. Walking into a village wearing a hot pink fanny pack with a water bottle attached to it, holding two soccer balls walking into this village to meet an elder! AH! Are you kidding me??? This was definitely the most terrifying thing I have ever done. But, it was also another one of those... "What the heck God? How did a girl from Kinmundy Illinois get into this?" haha
So, we're roaming around this village looking for the elder and we get to his house and of course, he is not there. So they run to get him and he comes back riding on the front of a Motorbike! haha! Classic Africa moment. And he gets chair so Joseph and I sit across from him and then all of a sudden it gets super quiet. I mean dead silent! And Joseph squats down in front of the elder. I did not. And when Joseph got up he looked at me and said "You're supposed to squat when you greet an elder." So I apologized and did like this half squat super awkward thing to let him know I was sorry. At this point, I am now thinking; Great, I just ruined my whole ministry all because I didn't freaking squat. I felt terrible especially when Joseph and the elder were talking and the elder was being very solemn and serious. He was very deliberate in what words he was choosing too. So I'm thinking, yeah I'm getting kicked out of the village. And then Joseph turns to me and says "The elder appreciates the initiative you are taking with these children. He will call and have the children and football (soccer) teams rounded up and may God bless you venture." I was like shut the front door... ok, obviously I didn't say that. But, I was thinking it and I can honestly say I almost cried tears of joy because I thought that my ministry was going to be shut down all because of one stinking thing! So, I was walking to the soccer field with like 30 kids following me and they would run and touch my arm then run away before I could see who did it! It was so cute. I think they were just so amazed that a broonei (or however you spell it) would stop and spend time with them! And then of course my school color just shocks them in general. So I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to learn their games and their songs. Which I did learn a few of them. And just spent time with them getting to know me. And of course I was snapping photos (which you can see all of them on Facebook)
So, that was Kurawura kuraa... And so then the next day I got up early to start the day and go to Alhassan kuraa and Kedelso.
Now, I was going to visit the elder and chiefs in these villages, but they weren't around so I like went down the chain of command and just found some guys and they helped to gather them and I did the same thing with these groups as I did the day before just getting to know them and letting them get to know me. It was the craziest feeling ever. Just roaming around these villages. NUTS! haha! But, it was awesome.
Following my awesome visits to the villages I traveled to Tamale to start my time at Seed Ministry. And there was a lovely couple staying their named Doris and Neil. So I got to know them fairly well. Even though they were only there until Monday. But, this was an awesome time for me! I spent a week there and I went to 6 different Bible clubs all over the Tamale area and even into the Bush of Africa! It was AMAZING! I got to experience some super cool things. But, by far the coolest thing was teaching at the Kindergarten and Primary school! haha
So, Sunday night I was told that I was going to be helping at Seed Ministry Academy. And I get there Monday morning and I am the teacher! haha! I traveled between 3 Kindergarten classes on Monday and Tuesday. Then Wednesday-Friday I spent with the 1st and 2nd Graders. And it was awesome because I got to know them very well and they could understand my English! So awesome! But, it was definitely an experience because I had never ever taught in a classroom setting before! haha! And apparently the kids liked it because they were asking when I was going to come back. Haha! It was amazing! Definitely a great week in Tamale! And I'm sorry you all aren't getting full details cause I'm trying to make this as short as possible! But, I promise to start blogging more often! haha! I love you all!

An Awesome Meeting, Peanut Butter Cups, and the Power of The Football
Well, the past few days have been AWESOME! Tuesday I was in Tamale with Amy and we picked (the Ghanaians just say picked, not picked up) Ernestina from the STC bus station. I also learned more about Seed Ministry and hopefully planned out some more time to spend there! Which will be very good. But, on Wednesday we had staff meetings.
And Isaac showed up around 12:30 for the meeting and we had a lot to discuss. Satan has been attacking in all sorts of creative ways and we needed to pray about those things and figure out some solutions to some problems that he has caused! But, after that I was able to share my passion with Isaac and discuss with him how he thinks I should proceed. I explained to him that my heart is for the children. Especially those that are not in the church. I know that that church needs a children's program of some sort, but at least those children are in church. The ones that I want to reach are the village children.
So we talked and decided that on Friday afternoons I will be in Kurawura kuraa from 2-3:30 playing with the children and telling Bible stories. And Saturday mornings I will be in Kawampe and Galumpe for an hour and a half in each of those villages as well. And here is the best part. Isaac has already told people at the church that they need to step up and volunteer! Which is such an encouragement because I was terrified of how to get leaders in the church to rise up. Of course God was already working on it! And we are also going to go to church in Kawampe and Galumpe and ask for volunteers there and explain what my plan is and how I would like it to continue once I am gone. Because that is another main goal of mine, that this ministry will sustain once I am back in the States! So join me in praying for leaders to rise up and for Satan to get the heck outta here! Cause he is trying to really hard to discourage our team here. But, as I was reminded by my sister Romans 16:20 says "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." And that is such and encouragement!
Also, as I told you Ernestina is here in Buipe with us for a little while. Last night I wanted her to try one of my Reese's I brought with me. She had never had one before! Haha! And I didn't know how she would feel about it because it is so sweet. But, she LOVED it! haha! It was just so funny to me seeing her reaction because these are like my favorites and to think that she had never tasted one before. Crazy!
And one more thing, The Power of the Football (in the US a soccer ball) Since I am going to be spending time with the children I wanted to help draw them to me with something related. So I purchased 2 footballs today at the marketplace (not like the big market on Monday, but a scaled down version) and the children are already drawn to white people (Broo-knee) But, the football just drew them so much more! It was crazy! So many more children were coming up to me and they wanted to play but we were in the market and we didn't have much time or space to play. I was kinda bummed about that. But, I will get my chance with the children!
So be praying for our team tomorrow and Saturday especially. I know Satan will be working his hardest to put roadblocks in our way!!! Thanks for all the prayers! Love you!

And Saturday mornings I will be in Kawampe and Galumpe for an hour and a half in each of those villages as well. And here is the best part. Isaac has already told people at the church that they need to step up and volunteer! Which is such an encouragement because I was terrified of how to get leaders in the church to rise up. Of course God was already working on it! And we are also going to go to church in Kawampe and Galumpe and ask for volunteers there and explain what my plan is and how I would like it to continue once I am gone. Because that is another main goal of mine, that this ministry will sustain once I am back in the States! So join me in praying for leaders to rise up and for Satan to get the heck outta here! Cause he is trying to really hard to discourage our team here. But, as I was reminded by my sister Romans 16:20 says "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." And that is such and encouragement!
Also, as I told you Ernestina is here in Buipe with us for a little while. Last night I wanted her to try one of my Reese's I brought with me. She had never had one before! Haha! And I didn't know how she would feel about it because it is so sweet. But, she LOVED it! haha! It was just so funny to me seeing her reaction because these are like my favorites and to think that she had never tasted one before. Crazy!
And one more thing, The Power of the Football (in the US a soccer ball) Since I am going to be spending time with the children I wanted to help draw them to me with something related. So I purchased 2 footballs today at the marketplace (not like the big market on Monday, but a scaled down version) and the children are already drawn to white people (Broo-knee) But, the football just drew them so much more! It was crazy! So many more children were coming up to me and they wanted to play but we were in the market and we didn't have much time or space to play. I was kinda bummed about that. But, I will get my chance with the children!
So be praying for our team tomorrow and Saturday especially. I know Satan will be working his hardest to put roadblocks in our way!!! Thanks for all the prayers! Love you!

Let's have church under a Shea tree =]
And that's what I did this morning =]
We had church under a Shea Nut Tree... Which for all you girly girls out there produces the Shea Butter that we all love to have in our lotion.
It was amazing. We pulled up to church and there were only 2 people there. You see it rained last night and stormed (which was amazing) and when it rains the people take a bit longer to get out and about. We also had 3 women and a baby with us in the truck.
The church was set up behind Isaac's house (The Storyteller and Terry and Amy's partner in ministry) and we had chairs set up in a semi-circle around the tree. So the women sat to one side and the men on the other... But me? I got to sit in the middle, right next to Isaac so he could translate because I had no idea what was being said! haha!
We started service off with a time of testimony where anyone could share how God has worked in their life the past week. It was so cool! After that we go into a time of prayer. We had an individual leader for each prayer and they prayed for forgiveness of sins, for distractions to be taken out, for God to be glorified, and for the Spirit to be in this place. And what an amazing way to start off service. I mean, it really put my perspective where it needed to be. We then sang a few songs and and Isaac told today's story. It was the story of Jesus being brought before Pilate, which is a story I have heard at least 20 times (once a year at Easter every year) and he told it in the Gonja (pronounced Gohn-juh, with a long "o") language twice and once in English. We then split up into small groups of people. Once we are in these groups we always try to have one person recite the story back... and it was amazing! That after hearing this story twice they could recite it almost word for word! Wow! After that we discuss 5 questions.
1. What did you like about this story?
2. What did you not like about the story?
3. What did you learn about the character of God in this story?
4. What did you learn about the character of man in the story?
5. How will you change your life after hearing this story?
And for me it was so cool to hear their responses to this story. For many of them this was probably their first time hearing it... ever. Their insights just blew me away. I wish that I could have my journal out and take note of all of their responses because it was so cool, but culturally I don't think they would appreciate that. So once we were out of our groups it was time for communion and offering. They passed around communion and it was a little different than what I am used to. It was made from leaves of a tree... which I am not sure what kind of tree. But, it was like a cold kind of tea and the communion bread tasted almost like Golden Oreos! It was crazy, but it again just puts the perspective back into place. Its not about the legalistic things ya know? Anyway, then offering was like a celebration! They passed around the basket and then put it in the middle of the circle and people almost danced to put in their money! So awesome!!!
Then they were about to dismiss and Isaac asked if Amy wanted to introduce me, so should and once the people heard that I am staying for 3 months they got all kinds of excited! I got to introduce myself as well and share with them how excited I am to be here and they then sang a welcome song to me... which was made up on the spot. That's kind of how they do things... Impromptu. haha! It was amazing. And such a blessing to me!
I got to meet several of the children but I don't know if I will be able to remember all their names... I am going to try! But, it just helped to confirm that God has me here for a purpose and there is a lot of work to be done!
So I ask that you all continue to pray for me. Pray that I can successfully carry out the mission God has called me to here. Also pray that it can only be done through Him and with Him so that I will see and the people will see that good things like this can only come from God!

The first 48 (or so) hours
Have you ever had one of those moments where you're just like "God, what are you doing?"
If you haven't then let me feel you in on how that feels!
It is like a roller coaster that you cannot get off... Or wait, maybe that is just the roads here? haha!
But, it is a wonderful feeling. Terry and Amy see me smile and laugh sometimes and they ask "what is so funny?" All I can say is "I'm in Africa!"
For example, today Amy and I went to the Market in Techiwan (I believe that is how you spell it) And we were standing there and all of a sudden I just thought to myself. "I am in an open market in the middle of Ghana, I have no idea where I am or what language this people are talking in." haha and I just laughed! What in the world is a girl from Kinmundy, IL doing in Ghana!?!!
And all I think is, God has a plan.
So, let me back up and tell you about everything! I flew out of Chicago and everything ok, but once we landed I only had about a 40 minute layover to get on my next plane, so I hurried and literally ran down the entire G concourse in Minneapolis! hahaha! It was crazy! But, I made it to my flight on time and I slept the entire way to Amsterdam. I got there and had about a two hour layover, or so I thought. But, my flight was delayed about 2 hours so I got to Skype Ryan and my parents for about 45 mins total cause I kept getting off and online. So anyway, I got on the plane and made my way to Africa!!! I watched Brave, What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Lorax, an episode of How I Met Your Mother, and an episode of the Office! Haha! KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the bomb! They had the little tv screen on the seat in from of me so I got to watch that stuff the whole flight since I did not want to sleep this flight because I would be arriving at night and I wanted to be able to sleep.
So I got off the plane and we immediately got on buses that took us to customs! Went through ok and then I went to baggage claim. And let me tell you about the scariest feeling in the world...
One of my suitcases came out on the thing super early so I was standing around waiting for it to come and it wasn't coming... and it wasn't coming... and it wasn't coming... I kept watching and watching. But, it was not there. People kept grabbing theirs and walking away and I was getting terrified. Then the conveyor belt stopped moving and I was like oh crap, I'm done for! But, then it started moving again, they stopped it to load more suitcases and then lo and behold! There mine was! It was a huge weight off my shoulders! That is for sure!!! But, I grabbed that went through everything else and found Amy and gave her a big hug!!!
Made our way to the house in Tema, a suburb of Accra, and the lady who takes care of the house made me spaghetti and cut up pineapple for me! 2 of my favorite things! how crazy is that?!?! But, anyway we spent the next day roaming around Accra, we got my phone and a modem so I can get on the internet! I met a few people from there, but not many.
We spent all day Friday driving from Accra to Buipe. Which is about 302 and miles... It took us over 10 hours! How crazy is that!?!?! But, we stopped and went to market, ate breakfast and had a few pit stops! But, still, crazy! So anyway, I am here in Buipe where I will do most of my ministry!
Saturday I will be unpacking and settling in then Sunday I will go to church! And I am so excited for that! Hopefully I can post pictures soon! I love you all so much! Thank for the support!!!
Now, I better publish this while I still have good internet!!!

a diamond pin
Sounds nice right? A beautiful diamond pin. Well I would like you all to know that I am the proud owner of a diamond pin.
While you may think this is a cheesy joke, a dime and pin. This is worth more to me than a diamond pin. You see I acquired this diamond pin on Monday from the cutest little old lady named Peggy. What had happened was, I was asked to sing for a revival at Woodlawn Christian Church. Once I got there I was asked to share my testimony, well given the crowd that was full of older folks I didn't think my full testimony was necessary. So I shared about my time at St. Louis Christian College and how God has worked in my life to make me realize that missions is where he has called me to. I shared a lot about my upcoming trip to Ghana and after the service I was able to meet and greet the people in attendance.
If you know me at all, you know I love cute old people. Especially little old ladies. I was chatting with the wife of the minister who spoke that night when Peggy came up to me and placed this unusual item on my shirt. She told me that this was a "diamond pin" and that it would bring me luck and since she was so cute I promised her that I would take it with me to Ghana. (which I planned on doing before I learned just how significant this diamond pin was)
Once she gave me a hug and walked away the lady I was talking to preceded to tell me this story.
Peggy's husband gave her a dime and pin in the beginning of their marriage as a cute little gift that you get for your spouse. She loved it. She wore it a lot. I also learned that he husband was a collector of dimes. He had several of them. Sadly he passed away recently and Peggy wanted his legacy to live one. So she had someone drill holes in all of his dimes ad she placed them on pins and she wore one everyday. Occasionally she would pass out a diamond pin to someone that touched her life or someone that was special to her.
Talk about a blessing.
It is hard for me to not cry when I think about this sweet old lady. Giving one of her prized diamond pins to a girl she has met once. I know she said that the diamond pin will bring me luck and I hope it does. But, what I do know is that pin has a whole lot of prayer attached to it. And that, truly is priceless to me.
So, in short I will be brining the diamond pin with me. On ALL my travels. So expect to see pictures of it at every airport and in Africa.
I'm not entirely sure if this blog had a point except to share with you the little blessings we get from God!

Beautiful Feet?
I hate my feet. I hate them. They are gross and just... gross. I mean really. That's the only word I can think of for them. My goal in this life is to not wear shoes as often as possible. I walk around barefoot no matter where I am. I wear flip flops in winter and that's my life.
So it came as a shock to me today when a friend of mine came up to me and said, "You have beautiful feet." I of course said "Excuse me? They are disgusting." And he said "No, you have beautiful feet. I was reading about them today in Romans."
I'm gonna be straight up with you all. This kid almost made me cry out of sheer appreciation for his words. He was referring to Romans 10:15, which says in the NIV
And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
But, I am not one of those girls who just likes to read it in one version. (Thanks to T.Scott Womble and SLCC) So I got onto handy dandy www.Biblegateway.com and checked out some other versions.

Hawaiin Pidgin
An how dey goin tell peopo if nobody send um fo go teach? Jalike da Bible say, “Wen peopo go fo tell da Good Stuff From God, eh! dass so awesome!”
Now, all except for the last one keep the word beautiful. So, why? Why do they all keep the same word? That rarely happens with the versions I chose. When I looked into the Greek word that was used it means "blooming or beautiful" and it is only used in relation to the body. I found it interesting that the word "blooming" is used with this passage. But, the word blooming means "glowing, as with youthful vigor and freshness."
I took you through my whole thought process to get to this point. We need to be spreading the gospel with youthful vigor and freshness! As I have told you all, I recently started dating this pretty cool cat (not an actual cat this is just a figure of speech) named Ryan. And, I am so excited. I desire to tell every one about him and how he has changed my life. And everyone's reply is the same "oh, young love." Yes, we are definitely in that young love stage. But, how we both desire to keep it!
Now how does this relate to my spiritual life? I remember being a young Christian! My relationship with Jesus was so new and I wanted to tell everyone about it; just like my relationship with Ryan. I was so incredibly in love with my Father and I desired for the world to know about it!
It is with this youthfulness that we are to tell of Jesus to the whole world! With freshness and vigor! This was a "beautiful" reminder of why I am going to Africa. Why I am serving at Oil Belt this summer. I am so blessed to be going on this adventure at a young age while I still have some tenacity and can go with joy!
So, Zach, whether you ever read this or not you have totally inspired me. You already think I have beautiful feet. I know they can use a little polishing, but thanks for helping to fan the flame of my passion for the gospel!

Big Things
Oh heavens! It has been quite a while since I have updated you on my life... Before I begin. Here's the list of crazy stuff that has happened!
1. I graduated SLCC
2. I got a boyfriend (he's pretty awesome)
3. I'm going to Africa in September!!!
Ok, that last one was an absolutely perfect segue into what I'm going to tell you all about =]
I remember being a kid and knowing that God had big things planned for me. I just didn't know what exactly they were going to be. I now have a better idea =]
The past few months God has been challenging me. Challenging me to think outside of the box, or more like out of my comfort zone. So, I began to question... where the heck do you want me to go God? And he gave me several different options. All options sounded amazing! So, I literally spent a month in prayer and at the end came to the conclusion that God was calling me to spend time in Ghana, Africa. I spoke with the missionary couple over there and God just worked it out in an amazing way! The timing for the trip is perfect and God keeps reconfirming His call on my life!
This journey to Africa is going to be a time of prayer and reflections on what He wants to do with me for the rest of my life! It is going to be seeking out a future (potentially) with the missionaries in Ghana and if I am going to live overseas for the rest of my life. It's going to be a very interesting 3 months, that's for sure.
God is working very hard on my heart right now and I am excited to see the end product! I hope you all can join me for the ride!!! =]
