So let me tell you all about the scariest thing I have *ever* done.
It was last Friday, over a week ago, and I'm cruising with Amy, Joseph (my translator), Fulera (I think that's how you spell it), and Isaac's children. We pull up to the sign that says Kurawura kuraa and she drops Joseph and I off... In the middle of the road! Hahaha! And then it was go time. I wasn't sure what to do, so Joseph said that for our ministry to be successful we needed to go and tell one of the elders of the village that we were here. So, I'm like "uh, ok, whatever you think is best." So here I am. Walking into a village wearing a hot pink fanny pack with a water bottle attached to it, holding two soccer balls walking into this village to meet an elder! AH! Are you kidding me??? This was definitely the most terrifying thing I have ever done. But, it was also another one of those... "What the heck God? How did a girl from Kinmundy Illinois get into this?" haha
So, we're roaming around this village looking for the elder and we get to his house and of course, he is not there. So they run to get him and he comes back riding on the front of a Motorbike! haha! Classic Africa moment. And he gets chair so Joseph and I sit across from him and then all of a sudden it gets super quiet. I mean dead silent! And Joseph squats down in front of the elder. I did not. And when Joseph got up he looked at me and said "You're supposed to squat when you greet an elder." So I apologized and did like this half squat super awkward thing to let him know I was sorry. At this point, I am now thinking; Great, I just ruined my whole ministry all because I didn't freaking squat. I felt terrible especially when Joseph and the elder were talking and the elder was being very solemn and serious. He was very deliberate in what words he was choosing too. So I'm thinking, yeah I'm getting kicked out of the village. And then Joseph turns to me and says "The elder appreciates the initiative you are taking with these children. He will call and have the children and football (soccer) teams rounded up and may God bless you venture." I was like shut the front door... ok, obviously I didn't say that. But, I was thinking it and I can honestly say I almost cried tears of joy because I thought that my ministry was going to be shut down all because of one stinking thing! So, I was walking to the soccer field with like 30 kids following me and they would run and touch my arm then run away before I could see who did it! It was so cute. I think they were just so amazed that a broonei (or however you spell it) would stop and spend time with them! And then of course my school color just shocks them in general. So I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to learn their games and their songs. Which I did learn a few of them. And just spent time with them getting to know me. And of course I was snapping photos (which you can see all of them on Facebook)
So, that was Kurawura kuraa... And so then the next day I got up early to start the day and go to Alhassan kuraa and Kedelso.
Now, I was going to visit the elder and chiefs in these villages, but they weren't around so I like went down the chain of command and just found some guys and they helped to gather them and I did the same thing with these groups as I did the day before just getting to know them and letting them get to know me. It was the craziest feeling ever. Just roaming around these villages. NUTS! haha! But, it was awesome.
Following my awesome visits to the villages I traveled to Tamale to start my time at Seed Ministry. And there was a lovely couple staying their named Doris and Neil. So I got to know them fairly well. Even though they were only there until Monday. But, this was an awesome time for me! I spent a week there and I went to 6 different Bible clubs all over the Tamale area and even into the Bush of Africa! It was AMAZING! I got to experience some super cool things. But, by far the coolest thing was teaching at the Kindergarten and Primary school! haha
So, Sunday night I was told that I was going to be helping at Seed Ministry Academy. And I get there Monday morning and I am the teacher! haha! I traveled between 3 Kindergarten classes on Monday and Tuesday. Then Wednesday-Friday I spent with the 1st and 2nd Graders. And it was awesome because I got to know them very well and they could understand my English! So awesome! But, it was definitely an experience because I had never ever taught in a classroom setting before! haha! And apparently the kids liked it because they were asking when I was going to come back. Haha! It was amazing! Definitely a great week in Tamale! And I'm sorry you all aren't getting full details cause I'm trying to make this as short as possible! But, I promise to start blogging more often! haha! I love you all!
Keep praying Satan away! Thanks!
